A Matter of Trust by Susan May Warren

About the Book
Champion backcountry snowboarder Gage Watson has left the limelight behind after the death of one of his fans. After being sued for negligence and stripped of his sponsorships, he's remade his life as a ski patrol in Montana's rugged mountains, as well as serving on the PEAK Rescue team. But he can't seem to find his footing--or forget the woman he loved, who betrayed him.
Senator and former attorney Ella Blair spends much of her time in the limelight as the second-youngest senator in the country. But she has a secret--one that cost Gage his career. More than anything, she wants to atone for her betrayal of him in the courtroom and find a way to help him put his career back on track.
When Ella's brother goes missing on one of Glacier National Park's most dangerous peaks, Gage and his team are called in for the rescue. But Gage isn't so sure he wants to help the woman who destroyed his life. More, when she insists on joining the search, he'll have to keep her safe while finding her reckless brother, a recipe for disaster when a snowstorm hits the mountain.
But old sparks relight as they search for the missing snowboarder--and suddenly, they are faced with emotions neither can deny. But when Ella's secret is revealed, can they learn to trust each other--even when disaster happens again?

My Thoughts
It's a no-brainer that I loved this book as Susan May Warren has yet to write a single thing I haven't loved (and I've read them all). The little bits of Gage we saw in the previous books definitely piqued my interest and I was quite ready to get his whole story. I can't imagine being on top of the world like he was and then have to watch it crumble around you knowing you couldn't do anything to stop it. And to make things worse it happened because he was trying to do the right thing. I admired how he didn't let it completely destroy him and still found a way to use his abilities to help people. He was the kind of guy who did whatever was necessary to keep those around him safe even if they didn't always deserve it. I loved how it pointed to the way that Jesus did what was necessary to save us when we did nothing to deserve it.
I liked Ella's character and while I didn't really agree with the choices she had made in the past, I could understand the reasons she did what she did. She was placed in a very difficult position and I appreciated how she tried to make up for her part of it, even if it might have been too little too late.
Gage and Ella had a lot of stuff to work through but you could just tell they were exactly what each other needed and I loved watching their love story.
The action in this book was pretty much non-stop! I love how Susan May Warren writes in such a way that you feel like your right there in each heart-stopping moment with the characters. I could barely put this book down and had it finished the day after I started it, staying up late into the night to see how it ended.
In addition to Gage and Ella's story we got a bits of the ongoing Ian and Sierra, and Jess and Pete stories as well as the new development of Ty and Ella's friend Brette! I can't wait to see how all of these will play out!
